Full Bucket Music Paralogy
Full Bucket Music is one of the most productive developers of free software synths, specializing in great-sounding emulations of lesser-known classics that tend to slip under the radar of commercial developers. Their latest release is no exception. Paralogy emulates the Italian-made Crumar Trilogy and Stratus synths from the early 1980s.
Similar to better-known contemporaries like the KORG Trident (which Full Bucket Music also offers a free emulation of), the paraphonic Trilogy and Stratus aimed to provide players with a wide spectrum of sounds in a single instrument – think of them as analog-age predecessors of the modern stage keyboard. While the Trilogy had separate sections for strings, synth, and organ, the stripped-down Stratus offered synth and organ sounds only.
According to Full Bucket Music, Paralogy provides a close simulation of both of these classics in a single plugin. And the developer has added some useful features to make them more usable in a modern context.
While the originals were paraphonic, Paralogy is a fully polyphonic synth that emulates the Organ, Synthesizer, and String sections of the Crumar Trilogy. Full Bucket Music has also added Phaser and Delay effects. The phaser in particular sounds like a great addition for classic string machine sounds. All parameters are MIDI-controllable and can be assigned using a convenient MIDI Learn feature.
If you’re a fan of classic string machine sounds, this awesome freebie from Full Bucket Music is clearly a must-have. But as the demo video shows, Paralogy is capable of a much wider range of sounds, and all of them are oh so 80s!
