Based on John Petrucci’s Cry Baby Rack Wah settings, the new JP95 wah comes in a very shiny chrome finish. The unit itself has a very simple and clean look, as all the controls for tweaking it are inside the unit.

John Petrucci is a bit of a prog rock legend and has his name on many products. He is also a bit of a perfectionist and has spent years crafting his tones. Once he decides to put his name to a company’s product, you’d expect it would be after long negotiations. I cannot see him endorsing just any old wah wah pedal.

This unit features a Volume, Q and 6 EQ controls, all housed inside the pedal itself. So, if you are the type of person that likes tweaking you’ll need to break into the JP95 each time to do so.

I’m not sure how I feel about that myself, as I like to tweak and find it frustrating to have to go hunt out a screwdriver to get to the extra controls inside an effect pedal. The brief demo on the Dunlop site doesn’t give us much to go on yet. However, I’m sure if you are a fan of Dream Theatre and Mr Petrucci’s playing then you should know what to expect.

It seems like just about every artist has a ‘signature wah’ pedal by Dunlop these days, so I’m not sure how much of a seller this one will be. Plus, it seems pretty expensive for a wah pedal, though I imagine the street price will be a fair bit less than the RRP of GBP £235.59.
