The Legend of Eric Clapton’s 1958 Les Paul
During Cream’s first tour of America, Clapton acquired a 1958 Les Paul Custom with three pickups, which he used not only on “Disraeli Gears” but also on many other tours into the 1970s. In 1979, he passed this iconic guitar on to Albert Lee, who continues to use and be inspired by it to this day.

Gibson Custom has reissued this legendary guitar in a limited edition model based on the latest 3D scanning technology and precise aging techniques from the Murphy Lab. This meticulously handcrafted replica reproduces every detail of the original, from the ultra-light one-piece mahogany body to the mahogany neck and ebony fretboard with custom mother-of-pearl block inlays. The guitar has the same neck profile as Clapton’s original.

The Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom guitar features gold hardware including Grover® tuners, ABR-1 bridge and stopbar tailpiece. Its Custombucker pickups are unwaxed with a custom setup that is mounted exactly like the original. Hand-wired CTS® 500k pots ensure high-quality tone, while Murphy Labs aging techniques perfectly replicate the marks of Clapton and Lee’s use.
Limited and Coveted
Only 150 copies of the Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom were handmade at the Gibson Custom Shop in Nashville. Each guitar comes with a pickguard signed by Clapton and Lee, a certificate of authenticity, an Archive Series leather strap and a special collector’s display case. The price is to be announced.
