ML Sound Lab MIKKO Reflex Free: Free Cab Simulator
ML Sound Lab claims that MIKKO Reflex is “the most sophisticated guitar cab sim in the world”. The full version (€119 intro price) lets you choose from 18 different cabs and eight microphones, which you can freely position around the speaker. It can also export the results as impulse responses.
Granted, the free version isn’t nearly as powerful, as it only includes a single cab. Still, it’s a great way to try out MIKKO Reflex and see if it lives up to the expectations. The developer says that MIKKO Reflex delivers a mix-ready tone that avoids the problems commonly associated with certain types of cabs.
MIKKO Reflex Free is available for macOS and Windows in VST, AU, and AAX formats. The free version includes a code that gets you a 30% discount on the full version.
Variety of Sound NastyDLA mkIII 3.5: Free Tape Delay Gets an Update
Variety of Sound has released a new version of NastyDLA mkIII, an analog-modeled chorus and echo device with a tape delay simulation for Windows. According to the developer, version 3.5 comes with a refined input stage with an audio transformer simulation for rich harmonics.
In addition, Variety of Sound has fine-tuned the interplay of compression and tape saturation to improve the dynamics and reduce distortion. Furthermore, the new version features a revised delay section with better stereo imaging and more flexible modulation.
NastyDLA mkIII 3.5 is a VST and VST3 plugin for Windows only.
Angelicvibes Basshead Mini
Basshead Mini by Angelicvibes is a free bass synth that delivers earth-shaking 808s and basses for trap, electronic, and pop music. It comes with 15 original presets, including seven 808s and eight deep basses. You can fine-tune the sounds using a simple attack and release envelope and built-in distortion.
