EarthQuaker Devices Chelsea: LCD Soundsystem Fuzz
Designed in collaboration with LCD Soundsystem
The EarthQuaker Devices Chelsea is a Low End Fuzz Driver pedal based on James Murphy’s LCD Soundsystem fuzz pedal.
EarthQuaker Devices Chelsea
EarthQuaker Devices has created the Chelsea using James Murphy’s old fuzz pedal, which he uses with the LCD Soundsystem. The original pedal has been repaired, and parts have been swapped out over the years, so it is now its own thing.
It follows last year’s Gary for the Idles and is the latest collaboration fuzz circuit from EQD.
Old Fuzz
Murphy uses it primarily on bass; however, it will work equally well on guitar. The pedal is named after the guitar shop, which was purchased in 1989 and offers a simple set of controls.
Controls
This fuzz pedal delivers a range from subtle overdrive to intense distortion using just three knobs. A Tone On/Off switch adds versatility, offering a mid-focused grind when bypassed. Sustain controls bass and lead sustain, while Tone shapes frequencies from sharp highs to deep lows. Finally, Level sets the overall output of the fuzz.
A simple fuzz is often the most useful when experimenting, and this design is undoubtedly easy to use. The circuit design also uses relay-based true bypass switching and requires a 9V power supply.
LCD Soundsystem
EQD makes some fantastic pedals, and this latest fuzz should appeal to anyone who needs a bass that will work well with low frequencies or is a fan of James Murphy and the LCD Soundsystem. The demos I have listened to all sound pretty good, so they are worth checking out if you like fuzz.
MSRP – EUR 219
