This Martin D Biosphere III is a special D-14 that embodies the fragility of beauty and nature. With a Polar Bear top, what else do we know about this unique instrument?

Visually, it certainly catches your attention. Despite the striking top, this has a solid sapele D-14 Dreadnought body with a Sitka spruce top. Acoustically, the Martin D Biosphere III should deliver warm and resonant tones. We’ve also got FSC-Certified woods, which nods to Martin’s commitment to using sustainable and responsible materials.

Additionally, there are details to look out for. Such as the European Flamed Maple binding and the sapele dot inlays. Therefore, not only does it look appealing, but it’s environmentally friendly too. Being a Martin of this quality, it’ll be one of the most comfortable guitars you’ve ever played.

Strong Ethos

Okay, so the Martin D Biosphere III looks and sounds cool. However, it is a product that hopes to spread the word about environmental protection with every chord that is played on it. Robert Goetz’s custom artwork looks great and reminds us to protect the relationship between humans and the polar environment.

Price and Availability

Naturally, being a special edition Martin, you’ll need your credit card for this one. Priced at *€2,999 / £2,599, it’s definitely at the premium end of the price point. You can order one of these from Thomann right away, but it doesn’t look like they’ll ship for a few weeks.

Without wanting to get too political, they’ve made a guitar to protect the environment. However, you’ve then got to buy one, which involves several delivery trucks and potentially a flight to get it to you… I’m not trying to rain on their parade, but surely that does more harm than good anyway?

What a God awful looking guitar. Rather than waste everyone’s time trying to promote the environment while still building it from wood (sustainably resourced…well done do they want a medal?) why not just not produce this monstrosity and save us and the planet the grief.
