Bare Knuckle gets heavy with Ragnarok Misha Mansoor signature pickups
When you need crushing heavy tones and dynamic cleans call Ragnarok!
British pickup specialist Bare Knuckle has a signature pickup developed for Misha Mansoor of Perphery fame. Named Ragnarok, these pickups have been created specifically with modern metal guitar tones in mind, their creators tell us. Bare Knuckle also says they’re designed from the ground up to complement the Periphery guitarists playing style and tone.
Ragnarok
Designed by Bare Knuckle’s founder and owner Tim Mills, producer Adam ‘Nolly’ Getgood and Misha Mansoor himself, the Ragnarok provide high-output, modern, aggressive tones that are suited to both modelling amps and more traditional valve amps. Available in 6, 7 and 8 String sets, they are calibrated and hand-wound in the UK at the Bare Knuckle workshop.
A match made in Devon
Tim Mills is a pickup builder based down my way in Devon. His reputation of perfection in his craftsmanship is deserved. I have been very lucky that he has wound my own pickups for many years. I can attest to the quality of his work. He is also one of the most down-to-earth and community-orientated businessmen in the UK.
Tim also has a great outlook on life and treats all his staff, customers and clients with great respect. So I can easily see why someone like Misha Mansoor would collaborate with Tim these pickups. Misha could have teamed up with any company he wanted and they would all happily want to use his name. But for me, Tim is probably the best (and nicest) guy in the business.
Misha Mansoor says of his new signature pickup:
“The Ragnarok fulfils a seemingly impossible remit – a chunky, fat sounding pickup that’s also devastatingly tight and aggressive; a hot ceramic pickup with a smooth top end and incredible clarity. Even the cleans and low gain tones have a fantastic voice. I didn’t think this could be done!”
Specifications
The Ragnarok is aimed at high gain applications but also built with clean tones in mind. This is no mean feat and to be fair, Bare Knuckle Pickups are one of the few companies out there in my experience that can pull this off.
I’ve personally owned and use many of their humbucking and single coil pickups. They do a great job of providing dynamic, responsive pickups even when used at high gain. These are ceramic humbucking pickups and so have quite a high output, yet they are also designed to handle cleans. If they are as good as previous models, then they will be very versatile.
I expect great things from these pickups and cannot wait to hear them. Have a feeling I’ll get to try some out at the Mansons Guitar Show next month here in Exeter, as Tim is usually there with a selection of his products for players to try out.
