According to a segment in the Korg microKAST podcast, there’s a new product ready to be revealed at NAMM in January 2018.

P is for…?

It was first mentioned in the September podcast in an interview with Korg Vice President, International Sales & Marketing, John McCubbery. He said that the team of engineers behind the Monologue and Minilogue are working on a new product for launching at NAMM. All he would say was that it starts with the letter “P” and he came up with the name one night after a glass of red wine. He goes on to say that it will “blow people’s minds” and it’s “full of engineering craziness” and is a “whole new area” and so is not replacing the existing synthesizer products. “It is new, it is SO new… totally familiar and then whaaat?” Then finally he drops in at the end that it has 8 letters.

In the October podcast, John gets back in touch to say that he’s found the discussion on forums very interesting but no one has considered numbers in the name. He confirms that the 8 characters do in fact include numbers. He also calls it a “fantastic and very clever product”.

So there you have it. Something new, innovative, synthy and mind-blowing from Korg at NAMM next year. P is likely to mean “Poly” but is the name going to be as dull as “Poly8000”? Does red wine have anything to do with it? Could it be the “Pinot800”? There are lots of suggestions around updating old products such as the Prophecy, MonoPoly, or a range of Poly products. But the Monologue and Minilogue were something different, new, clever and yet classic.

What do you think?

All I can hope is that it’s not a new International version of the Korg Pa600MY:

My guess is that it might be a modular Minilogue? Korg PS 3400?

I’m just guessing, but I’d find it quite likely that KORG’s new synth will be based on the manufacturer’s NUTUBE technology in some sense because since the introduction of the NUTUBE KORG hasn’t released any product yet that is based on that technology. That guess led me to the idea for the name: POLYTUBE. Whether this is only my own wishful thinking or not, we’ll see. But a synths, which consists of oscillators and filters that are based on tubes would be something new, indeed.
