Best free plug-ins this week: Snapshot, U-He Repro 5, Stagecraft Infinity
Who’s up for some free plug-ins? This week, we are blessed with an useful tool – Snapshot – along with two superb synthesizers. One’s the Repro 5 by U-He, an in-beta simulation of the classic Sequential Circuits Pro Five synthesizer. The other is Stagecraft Infinity, a thoroughly modern sample-based synth. Here are the toys we’re talking about!
Snapshot – a free app for storing settings in your DAW
How did audio engineers get by without presets in the “mostly hardware” era? They took photos of their settings or wrote them down on paper. Yeah, so primitive!
Anyway, for those of you still running tracks through authentic circuitry, there’s a nifty free little tool that lets you store snapshots of hardware gear settings together with the tracks they were used on. It’s called Snapshot and it’s made by Non-Lethal Applications.
You can use it on Windows and Mac computers to load several photos of your gear at once, move through them, and rotate them if you have to. It’s a nice time-saver with a practical purpose. And with decent cameras now available on phones, taking a pic of your gear has never been easier!

U-He Repro 5 beta synthesizer
After grabbing the old Sequential Circuits Pro One by the horns and turning it into a phat & mean-sounding digital synth, U-He is tackling its polyphonic brother, the Pro Five. It’s almost the same synth as the Pro One, but there’s five times more from it to enjoy now, in addition to all the differences in sound and the polyphony, of course! U-He plans to combine Repro 1 and Repro 5 into a single product (Repro) when beta testing is over, which is smart – after all, the two share a lot of musical and technological upbringing. Head to U-He’s thread on KVR for more details on price & availability – and the beta download, of course. Mind you, the synth is running in demo mode, so some cracks and pops will be inevitable…

Stagecraft Infinity synthesizer
Infinity is a sample-based synthesizer with plenty of functionality for sound shaping and 1200 presets – that’s a lot of material to start with! In addition to amenities like ADSR envelopes, effects chaining, adjustable filters, modulation (including velocity and aftertouch), automation, and MPE support (for independent modulation and other attributes for each MIDI note), Infinity has a store for purchasing and downloading sample banks and presets. It’s a reasonably full-fledged product that’s being generously presented to softsynth fans for free.

Hi,
Repro-5 is only available in Demo mode, so with random crackling noises.. there is nothing ‘free’ about this.. 🙂
