Softube/UAD add Marshall JMP2203 to their range
Universal Audio has announced their new Marshall JMP 2203 Guitar Amplifier, developed by Softube, which is slated for release as part of the UAD software v8.5 in early February 2016.
Softube and Marshall have been working together for a while now. The two companies have recreated a lot of classic Marshall amps from the company’s history and incorporating them into the new Marshall CODE modelling amplifiers that were announced at NAMM this year or making them available through the UAD Apollo platform.
The two companies both have their strengths – Marshall’s history of great amps and Softube’s modelling algorithms – and their previous efforts with UAD have been pretty well received globally. I like the fact you can just dial in an old Marshall head and get that tone straight away on your recordings. Personally I have owned a few of the original JMP 2203 amps and they are both amazingly loud and also weigh a ton (the singer in one of my old bands pulled muscle in his back lifting one of my JMPs out of the boot of the car). It’s very nice to have a virtual one to hand which is likely to be more flexible in a recording scenario.
Introduced in 1975, the JMP 2203 is widely regarded as one of Marshall’s classic amplifier designs. The amp quickly caught on with players for its dense crunch, sustain and power. The only issue with the real thing is servicing them every year and the fact, as I have already mentioned, that they are super loud…
