Moog Symposium performance at the University of Surrey
While everything seems focused on Anaheim California for the annual NAMM show the University of Surrey is getting it’s Moog on by hosting a Symposium day of seminars and performances.
In collaboration with residents Moog Soundlab UK Saturday 3rd February will feature demonstrations of Moog synthesizers, talks on modular synthesis and live performances from Chris Carter (Throbbing Gristle) and Chris Watson (sound recordist and musician), supported by Finlay Shakespeare (Future Sound Systems). A keynote address entitled “The Sound of Moog” will be given by Thom Holmes, one of the world’s foremost authorities on electronic music.
The Symposium also marks the launch of the new Moog Recording Library record label, who have recorded work created with the Moog Soundlab UK over the past three years. These will be released on vinyl. There will also be a round-table discussion called Bob Moog and the “living machines”.
The Moog Sound Lab features a rare re-engineered Moog System 55 modular synthesizer. And also many modern Moog instruments.
The talks and demonstrations are all free, but the two performances will cost £10 each. Here’s the full program:
- 11.30 – 12.30 Finlay Shakespeare: From Moog to Mutable, featuring demonstrations of the Moog Soundlab UK and other modular technologies. (Free Admission)
