NAMM 2018: BOSS launches new GT-1000 multi-effects processor flagship
New flagship multi-effect from Japanese effects giant
Boss has just unveiled the brand new GT-1000 Guitar Effects Processor to their lineup, this new floor pedal based unit looks like it is all set to take on Line 6 on in the modelling wars.
Boss GT-1000 Guitar Effects Processor
This new Boss GT-1000 comes equipped with AIRD or ‘Augmented Impulse Response Dynamics’ technology that uses an ultra-fast DSP engine and has a 32-bit AD/DA, 32-bit floating-point processing with a 96 kHz sampling rate.
Tube Logic
The unit also uses the same algorithms as their already hugely popular DD-500, MD-500, and RV-500 pedals and of course Boss is using their popular Tube Logic that they have been utilising in their recent Katana amp series, so we should expect a great sound from these new floor processors.
They claim it has fast preset changing and that with the new AIRD / Tube Logic technology that it should all sound pretty swish and ‘real’, which is what players want.
Control
I reckon that as the Katana amps have done so well, that this could be a contender in the war of the floor ‘virtual amp with effects’ control pedal war that is currently raging in the guitar world. You can use the GT-1000 with footswitches, expression pedals, MIDI, and USB for external control (or attach to editors in your DAW etc) and it also has built-in Bluetooth so you can edit the patches with either an Android or iOS app.
With a large display and six user-assignable switching knobs, it looks pretty easy to use and has the usual obligatory onboard tuner and that has both mono or polyphonic operation.
Outputs
The pedal has ¼-inch jack main outputs and XLR sub outputs with independent AIRD output select as well, so you can configure effects in mono or stereo loops.
On the back are next to the stereo main out and the input further outputs for phones, Send 1 + 2, Return 1 + 2, Sub Out L + R, CTL 4-5 (Expression), CTL 6-7 (Expression), Amp CTL 1-2 and a USB port, through which you can connect the GT-1000 to the computer.
The whole unit looks pretty good and the demo video below gives you an idea of what it can achieve, so at this sub £900 price it should sell well and be in direct competition with Line 6’s Helix.
RRP- GBP 879
