NAMM 2018: Teisco relaunched as a brand with Fuzz, Boost and Delay effects
The oddball Japanese brand is brought back to life for 2018
Teisco has been relaunched at this year’s NAMM Show! Once known for its kitsch and quirky gear, the Japanese brand has announced three new effects pedals to kick-start the brand for 2018.
Teisco
This brand was once known for making pretty cheap (and in my opinion sometimes nasty) guitars and instruments, but nowadays they have a real cult following. You may well recognise some of the brand names that they used to sell instruments under, like Silvertone, Arbiter and Kay. To be fair, some of them were great and they are still worth playing, although some of it was cheap junk and not so nice to play.
BandLab Technologies has relaunched the Teisco brand name and is doing so with these three new pedals which consist of a Fuzz, Boost and Delay effect.
Delay
This has controls for feedback, delay time, level and a modulation section with depth and rate, plus a small lever that switches between fast and slow.
Fuzz
With Gain, Tone and Volume control knobs plus there is also a small lever that switches the octave below or above on. Other than that we don’t have much else to go on at the moment and their website is vague at best.
Boost
This one has controls labelled Boost and Gain, therefore the pedal should also function as a light overdrive. There are also two very interesting levers: one turns on (apparently) the internal voltage of 9 to 24 volts for a bag full of more headroom, the other between the modes Normal, Flat and Treble.
Quirky Japanese Retro?
I think that there is definitely an element of retro quirk here, but I am really looking forward to some meaningful reviews soon, as they could be pretty unique and I also quite like their ‘low profile’ case design and bright styling. No release date just yet and prices have yet to be confirmed by the company.
