Fender Limited Edition Offset Telecaster offered in USA
Fender USA has teamed up with make’n music, a Fender dealer in the States, to launch a pair of limited edition Offset Telecaster models with Wide Range Humbuckers in the neck position. Will this model please offset lovers everywhere?
Wide Range Humbucker
Designed by Tim Shaw, these Wide Range Humbuckers – or Shawbuckers, as they are known – are a welcome addition to this limited release. The offset design looks quite retro, with a classic, perhaps ’60s vibe. In actual fact, the design was a fairly recent development, dreamt up by Fender’s Custom Shop only a few years ago.
In the bridge position, you get a Fender Custom Shop Broadcaster pickup that sits in a traditional Telecaster ‘ashtray’ bridge with three brass saddles. It should twang nicely, just as you would expect.
I like Offset Telecasters, or Telemasters as they are more commonly known in guitar circles. In fact, I like them so much I have built three of my own over the years and use one as my main gigging guitar.
American Professional Offset Telecaster
These limited run guitars come in either Butterscotch Blonde or Ocean Turquoise finishes. Both have maple necks, but the Ocean Turquoise comes with a rosewood fretboard, which I think complements that blue/green finish really well.
Okay, so these are really just Telecasters loaded with a ‘Shawbucker’ in the neck position with an offset body design. The shape is what many players will lust after (or not). After all, it already has quite a following with many players who enjoy the comfort the curves give this guitar, unlike the more utilitarian regular Telecaster design from the 1950s.
USA orders
If you like the idea of owning one of these limited run Telemasters, you will need to put down a 10% deposit to secure one, but as they are currently only available from this one US dealer. That could work out as quite expensive for us guitar geeks in the UK and Europe…
