Gibson Gary Clark Jr. Signature SG in Vintage Cherry!
Gary Clark Jr gets a new Cherry SG
The new Gary Clark Jr. Signature SG Vintage Cherry is Gibson’s latest signature model for the blues guitarist. The TV Yellow one from last year sold out super fast, so if you missed out then this new Vintage Cherry one might tickle your fancy.
Vintage Cherry
The specification appears to be the same as last year’s yellow version. Now it comes in a far more traditional Vintage Cherry nitrocellulose finish, one that many players would associate with a Gibson SG, so a wise choice of colour.
The guitar features three P90 pickups, with a P90SR neck pickup, P-90SM middle pickup, P90ST bridge and it has the smaller SG pickguard, so looks quite smart to me and I think personally it looks great in this colour scheme as well.
Specifications
The SG has a mahogany body and a ’60s-style ‘Slim Taper’ mahogany neck loaded with mother of pearl trapezoid inlay intos on a rosewood fingerboard loaded with 24 frets.
Fitted with a traditional ABR bridge with an aluminium stop-tail, it also has a set of locking Grover tuners and so the tuning should be rock solid.

As I mentioned above, the original yellow version sold out fast and I think this model will also do really well. It just goes to show that when Gibson gets it right, they can make great guitars and this model for me is one of those good-looking guitars, that also happens to have very handy features and a decent specification as well.
If Gibson would make more guitars like this one and the recent Lzzy Hale signature Dark Explorer that I wrote about recently, then they would probably find more buyers, especially as I think this guitar is really well priced.
At the time of writing Gibson still has the details up on their website for the original yellow version, but hopefully, this will be updated soon.

Priced right and very nice especially with the extended fingerboard. Wonder what the marketing guys at Gibson had to slip into Henry’s coffee to get this one past him? 🙂
Hopefully, Henry is sedated somewhere and the real guitar builders/innovators at Gibson are making quality instruments in his absence.
this has to be one of the gayest sg’s made yet.
