Keeley Germanium Amplifier pedal – handmade by Robert Keeley!
A handmade preamp made built by Robert Keeley himself!
The new Keeley Germanium Amplifier is a limited edition preamp pedal handmade by Robert Keeley in small numbers. It’s been designed to add some boost to your guitar’s tone.
Germanium Amplifier
This simple one-knob design is as basic as it gets. Plug the Germanium Amplifier between your guitar and your amp, then dial it in to taste. Ideally, it would be the only pedal in the signal chain, suggests the Keeley website. We expect the market for this pedal to be players that ‘are seriously into their tone’ – or perhaps players that just enjoy simplicity from a stompbox?

The Germanium Amplifier has a single footswitch, to switch the effect on and a blue LED, that lets you know when it is engaged. There is also a bias control inside the pedal that allows you to dial in how much gain you want from the preamp, whereas the knob on the front just controls how much output/volume you get from the effect. Because it’s built by Robert Keeley himself, expect a wait time of around 4-6 weeks when placing your order, until it is ready to ship to you!
I’m not 100% convinced that this pedal will be worth the wait, as it really is pretty simple, but it does utilise a Tungsram AC125 germanium PNP transistor and so should hopefully sound pretty good (well, it should do for $300). I do, however, like the simple design, as it just means you can get on with playing your guitar.
Yes, it is true-bypass and it will run on either a 9V battery or a 9V power supply. Check out the official video below to hear the pedal in action and you can order one directly from the Keeley Custom Shop site link below.
