IK Multimedia has announced the latest version of their big-box bundle. Total Studio 2 MAX offers 94 products, 16,800 sounds, 39 mastering processors and over 350 models of gear for guitar and bass. At $1,000 it will give Native Instruments Komplete Ultimate a run for its money.
Total Studio 2 MAX
There’s a lot of stuff in here. A wealth of virtual instruments from workstation synths like SampleTank, through all their latest Syntronik virtual synthesizers and onto the massively classical Miroslav Philharmonik 2. 43 virtual instruments in all, almost 17,000 sounds and 179GB of samples. The guitar and bass amp simulator Amplitude comes packed with every version of every expansion. And the full mastering experience is provided by T-Racks 5 and the Lurssen Mastering Console.
They say it’s the world’s widest and most balanced collection, which of course they would say. It’s certainly a plethora of sonic possibility and saves something like 90% off the individual purchase price. Which makes me think they might be charging too much in the first place.
Cinematic and orchestral
Among the collection are 7000 acoustic instrument sounds and 3000 orchestral sounds. The Miroslav orchestral samples are famously expressive and offer all sorts of nuance and articulation in the Miroslave Philharmonik 2 instrument. SampleTank Max comes with 24 libraries, 4,600 instruments, 7,400 drums and loops and 3,500 MIDI patterns. Enough to keep any preset surfer happy.
Physically modelled
A recent addition to the lineup is the physically modelled MODO BASS. It features a wide assortment of electric bass sounds with control over all the physical properties.
Synth Legends
Need some more numbers? In here somewhere are 4,000 electronic instruments, including the recent Syntronik collection of virtual synthesizers. Featuring 38 vintage synths sampled into 17 instruments with over 2,000 presets. All with their new DRIFT technology that ensures they always sound a bit “off” just how we like it.
Guitars
Amplitude is the original amp and cabinet modelling software and it continues to evolve and maintain it’s position as the sound to beat. There are 350 circuit modelled amps, cabs, mics, stomp boxes and rack effects. All the brands such as Fender, Orange, Ampeg, Fulltone and more are included.
Mastering
T-Racks 5 has a very powerful mix and mastering modular system with everything from EQ, channel strips, dynamics and reverb to harmonic processing and metering. The Lurssen Mastering Console emulation brings a unique and award-winning sound to your projects.
Total Studio 2 Deluxe
Can’t quite stretch to the full grand? Then the Deluxe version for $499 might be what you need. From35 products you get 12 instruments, 9,700 sounds, 22 mastering processors and 140 guitar amps and effects. But you’re always going to wish you went for the full MAX version.
