The new Gibson Custom Shop Vivian Campbell Les Paul Custom is a limited edition run of the rock guitarist’s new signature model. Each one comes hand signed by Vivian himself – if you stump up an extra $1000.
Vivian Campbell Les Paul Custom
As a ‘Vivian Campbell’, you want this guitar to be an all-out rock machine. After all, he is known for his high octane style of ’80s fuelled rock riffs and leads.
Luckily for us, it looks like his input into the Les Paul Custom has indeed delivered the goods. We get a nice tuxedo-style, slightly-over-the-top Custom with a fast-playing 1970s neck profile, jumbo frets (yes, finally a Les Paul Custom with jumbos) and a pair of high-output DiMarzio Super Distortion (bridge) and Super 3 (neck) humbuckers. I would expect this particular Les Paul Custom to squeal and wail with the best of them!
The hardware, including the DiMarzio pickups, is all finished in Satin Aluminium and looks good on the chosen finish, which is called Antrim Basalt Burst. The whole guitar looks really well thought out, and I think you can thank Mr Campbell for that input. Gibson states that the colour scheme is a “rubbed-patina black-and-grey colour scheme inspired by the coastal rock formations of Vivian’s hometown in Northern Ireland”.

Limited Edition
Yes, it is another limited edition run from the Custom Shop, so it isn’t exactly cheap. You get all the standard woods like a mahogany body that has a two-piece figured maple top and a five-piece maple/walnut long tenon neck with a Richlite fretboard.
The tuners are a set of Grover Kidneys and it has a TonePros locking bridge and locking tailpiece, all finished in the Satin Aluminium. As with the recent Slash signature models, I am not convinced that Vivian Campbell’s signature is worth $1000, however it does look like a decent Les Paul Custom.

Yes, this is really a decent Custom and well specified both hardware and wood wise. Looks good in that finish, plus it looks different enough to warrant being a ‘signature’ model.
I have S /N 068 and out of a 2002 LP standard that is AWSOME and a ebony 2016 hot rodded LPC ,,,The Vivian Campbell custom is a hands down winner,,,,it’s a real players guitar,,,and I’m so glad I bought one !!! I am certain this LPC IS GONNA BE A COLLECTORS MUST HAVE.
I have been dreaming & trying to work out a plan to get one. A must have. I do hope I can swing it. The LPC in the Campbell signature is a bad ass.
