Frekvens: The Ikea/Teenage Engineering mashup is emerging

I reported back in February about some design collaboration between Ikea and Teenage Engineering. We knew it was called Frekvens and there were some confusing images of lights and a turntable, possibly a guitar neck. No idea really what it was all about – but they seemed to be having a really good time.

Some more images have emerged which show the products in a much clearer light. Currently, there’s a rather nice looking turntable, some strangely designed speakers and some cool lighting. If you put “turntable” into the Ikea search field it comes up with a toy train accessory and a range of microwaves – so it’s nowhere near available yet. Apparently, it will be June 2019 before they become available.
The idea came from Marcus Engman, head of design at Ikea, who had observed that many people come into Ikea when they have a party, looking for candles and napkins. He thought how cool would it be to be able to pick up a cheap sound system with lights – a complete party in an Ikea bag. The playing of music is such an integral part of home living that it’s a wonder they hadn’t covered it before.
I’m sure we’ll hear more about it next year.

A mass product that again is not ment to last and is not to be recycled properly ( because Ikea simply can not do it) and will be burnt somewere in Africa after an extreme short period of use. Or does anybody seriously think Ikea will run a radio repair shop? Ikea products make our planet a dump heap, and this one is not different. Don’t buy Ikea!
I just got a rather nice chest of drawers actually.
