Radial are based in Canada and make some really useful tools for musicians. The Shotgun is one such tool that will be very useful to guitarists that like using more than one amp live or in the studio.
The new Shotgun can either run up to four amps in mono or two amps in stereo. Of course, you could also run two mono amps and take another output to a PA or a DI for recording. Radial use a proprietary technology they call ‘CLC’ which stands for Consistent Load Compensation. It’s designed to resolve potential issues with impedance mismatch when playing over several amps at once, using a stereo source like a delay or chorus pedal. This might lead to your guitar’s tone sounding thin and weak on one amp and okay on another, for example. CLC tries to maintain a consistent impedance and so therefore your guitar signal should sound the same across all your amps. This can be very handy, as it can be a lot of hard work driving more than one amp at a time using some of the ‘multi-output’ splitter boxes on the market that don’t use any active circuitry to compensate for this.
The unit itself is powered by a standard 9 Volt power supply which is included. All the outputs are isolated, so you shouldn’t suffer from ground loops. The outputs are also buffered, so you can run very long cables. That’s great for studio use as it means you can be in the control room as your four 100 Watt stacks destroy the ear drums of the tea boy placing microphones!
I have owned a few of their products in the past and have always been impressed by their build quality and ease of use. I had one of their Tone Bones for years and it survived my old drummer backing his van over it! But seriously, this is a very handy piece of kit and will appeal to players that like using larger rigs.
