Mooer has just released two new mini preamp effects pedals, the Taxidea Taxus and the Brown Sound.
Taxidea Taxus and the Brown Sound Preamps
These two new preamp models extend the range initially released back in 2017 and at this year’s Winter NAMM Show. Numbered 014 Taxidea Taxus and 015 Brown Sound, these are based on two pretty familiar guitar amps/ tones, which I am sure you can guess.
The pedals are too small to house a 9V battery compartment, so you need to run both of them from an external power supply delivering DC 9V at 300mA. On the plus side, their diminutive size means that you can have a few of them on your pedal board at the same time.
Digital preamp recreations
Being digital recreations, these may not be aimed at tone connoisseurs. But for the price point, I don’t think you can go far wrong with these preamps. Each has pedal is a dual channel preamp and 3-band EQ, Gain and Volume controls for each channel. That makes for some pretty versatile tone shaping options for your board.
They also have a built-in speaker cabinet simulation, making them handy for recording or straight into a PA system as well. That’s not bad for the money. They are small enough to carry a few in your gig bag, just in case your main amp dies, giving you a handy backup for gigs.
