Superbooth 2018: meet Theresyn, the theremin-synth hybrid machine

At Superbooth 2018, a Japanese inventor demonstrated the Theresyn – a reimagining of the theremin which sees the gesture-driven instrument combined with an analog synthesis engine and built-in speaker inside a beautiful wooden housing.
Theresyn
Like a traditional theremin, the Theresyn is operated with two antennas. But there’s also a metal touchpad which triggers the envelope. The touchpad also serves as a handle. The envelope allows for percussive sounds to be generated.
The synthesis engine is of the subtractive kind, featuring different waveforms and multimode filters. The loudspeaker is positioned on the back and its output is passed through strings stretched over it, making them resonate. The theremin and synth sounds can be mixed and detuned.
The Theresyn is a boutique instrument that’s made by hand, which is reflected in the price. It’s going to cost up to EUR 3000, and that’s some serious cash to spend! Availability is scheduled for June.
