TritonLab’s new Labyrinth pedal: 33V of dual-channel overdrive and distortion
A new boutique drive pedal operating internally at 33 volts for higher headroom
Estonia’s TritonLab has launched a new pedal, the Labyrinth Dual Overdrive/Distortion. One of the main features is an internal voltage that’s higher than many drive pedals out there. TritonLab claims that the Labyrinth “simulates the behavior of a vacuum tube in tube amplifiers”.

The Labyrinth is a dual channel overdrive/distortion pedal with an internal voltage running at 33 volts via an internal step-up converter. This, in turn, enables a much higher headroom than most pedals on the market. You commonly see drive pedals nowadays running internally at 24 volts, so this even higher voltage is a step above this.
With an EQ built around the Marshall tone stack that many players know and love, and twin channels available via CH1/CH2 footswitch switch, the Labyrinth certainly has a lot to offer. Its maker states it achieves its core sound by using JFET technology, leading to a warm, tube-like sound with soft clipping and a lower noise level. If true, this will be just what the doctor ordered, as we all enjoy this type of ‘amp-like’ pedal for drive tones.

Smooth
The Ch1 side of the pedal has controls for Volume, Pre and Post Gain, while the Ch2 side has a more simple layout with Volume, Gain. Both channels share the EQ, with Bass, Middle, Treble and Presence controls. It’s well laid out and should be easy enough to use.
The Labyrinth pedal uses relays with gold contacts for channel switching via momentary footswitches, so expect it to be smooth and pretty noiseless in operation when switching between your two drive tones. The pedal is also true-bypass and so won’t mess with your tone when not engaged.
The build quality seems very good. The Labyrinth is hand built, so if it sounds as tube-like as TritonLab says, it might be bit of a bargain at the price they are asking. You will need to run it from an external power supply rated at 9 VDC /200 mA though, which is not included in the price, but I figure many players will already own something suitable already.
