While premium, hand-built boutique pedals are all the rage, it can be worth checking out some more moderately priced digital gear, too, especially if you’re on a budget. To that end, Hotone has announced the Binary series of four new effects named Amp, Eko, Cab and Mod. All four are based on the technology behind its Xtomp modelling pedal but here each pedal houses a separate effect.

The layout of the four pedals is almost identical, with two foot switches, five control knobs, four pressure switches and four sockets. Depending on the effect and application, the controls differ slightly across the range. In the middle of each pedal is a small OLED display that shows the current preset. The sounds available can be managed and edited via USB connection on your computer using Hotone’s free editing software.

Each pedal contains two DSP chips that use Hotone’s Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling technology. Here’s some more detail on each pedal:

You can also change the microphone type and the microphone position (X, Y, Z) as well as the speaker model. It comes with an AUX in and headphone output, too.

Binary Mod

This is almost identical to the Eko, but produces a range of modulation effects. There are controls for Level, A, B, Depth and Rate. There’s a modulation pedal input, too. The output is also stereo or dual mono and the 24 effects include Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Tremolo, Rotary, Vibrato, Wah, Detune and more.

A pretty handy set of pedals in all. They appear to be well priced and with plenty of pro features. It’s worth checking out the videos below for a basic overview of all the core features.

RRP- USD 139 except Binary IR Cab which is USD 149
