Fulltone Supa-Trem Jr: Updated, smaller and still full of tremolo

The Supa-Trem is probably one of the most popular tremolo pedals out there at the moment. Now Fulltone has introduced the new Supa-Trem Jr. So what’s new?
Supa-Trem Jr.
First, it’s smaller than its older sibling. While the Supa-Trem Jr has controls for Volume, Mix and Rate that are the same size as before, they’ve been made smaller. In between, there is a small lever, which switches the waveform between Square, Sine and Warble.
But the footswitches for Half Speed and Hard/Soft have been removed to save space. On the Supa-Trem Jr only Bypass and Tap Tempo are available. There is still a half/double hold feature, but you need to use the Tap Tempo switch and by holding down Tap switch for ¾ of a second it kicks in. You also get up to 15dB of boost available. Of course, the pedal is true-bypass.
There is also the ability to plug in an external External Tap jack to govern the speed via an external optional footswitch.
Analogue Boost
The internal workings are all identical. The Jr. version uses the Opto-1 photocell and the Analog Devices JFET preamp, so the signal path is still analogue but it uses a ‘digital brain’ for the oscillator section. The pedal can also be used as a clean analogue boost if you turn the Mix control knob all the way down.
I’m a big fan of Fulltone pedals myself and it is nice to see this new compact version of their tremolo, as it still has all the great analogue circuit we all love, just now it takes up less space on your pedal board. The Fulltone Supa-Trem Jr. is hand-built in the US and should be available soon. The Fulltone site says release is slated for 8/15/2018, so not too to wait.
