Acustica Audio Viridian Plug-in Suite: Modelling Über-rare British and German gear
Acustica Audio is again sampling obscure vintage gear with its latest release, Viridian. It’s a collection of vintage British solid-state gear emulations, including a modern reissue of a “coveted” FET studio compressor and a “hyper-rare” early 60’s German console that Acoustica says delivers “tube fairy dust”. Yay!
Like most Acustica releases, the Viridian suite comprises several processors – a channel strip and standalone equalizer, compressor, and preamp modules. Each processor includes different modes, so in reality, it makes for 6 preamps, 3 compressor models, and 3 equalizers. Acustica is also giving away some clues about what gear it has been sampling and emulating with its Core 12 audio engine and Nebula convolving technology:
• A-69: vintage British solid-state EQ
• A-72: vintage German vacuum tube EQ
• A-PIE: ’60s PWM British Compressor
• A-700 ’70s British FET compressor
• A-760 reissue of a British vintage solid-state compressor
• circuit coloration emulation ‘preamps’ from all of the above units

It all sounds very interesting and looks the part, too. I am a big fan of Acustica’s detailed, lifelike graphics that bring the rough-around-the-edges coolness of vintage gear to the computer screen. As it’s usual with the developer, Viridian is sold at a competitive price given what’s on offer here.

Viridian is on a pre-sale price of around EUR 170, down from EUR 199. A free 4-week trial version is available, too. The plug-in is available in VST, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and Mac computers.
