Ableton Live 10 Suite gets some new possibilities with the Probability Pack
Ableton and Sonic Faction have introduced a set of five innovative step sequencers to the Ableton Live 10 Suite collection. Each one has a different approach to bringing controlled randomization into your tracks and performances.
Probability Pack
Each sequencer has a unique way of adding probability to patterns and sequences to generate movement, evolution and unpredictable outcomes. You can use them to create variations on existing sequences or generate entirely new ideas from the subtle to complete chaos.
As usual, they are designed to be used, ideally, with the Push hardware but it is by no means necessary. And these are free to all users of Ableton Live 10 Suite or Ableton Live Standard with Max for Live.
Melodic Probability
A monophonic step sequencer designed for creating melodies. You have probability control over event, pitch and octave for each step.
Rhythmic Probability
A similar grid but this time polyphonic and designed for rhythms. You have probability control over velocity, length and event for each step.
Probability Arp
It’s an arpeggiator with built-in chord generation. Set probability for rate, note direction, length and octave.
Step Divider
A polyphonic sequencer where each step can be divided into any number of smaller subdivisions for glitchy and chaotic results.
Dr Chaos
This one is something to do with Neural networks – probably best played with than explained.
Sonic Faction has put together over 60 Ableton synth presets and instrument racks with settings specifically designed for the sequencers.
Randomisation is a growing trend in music production and it’s great to see it creeping into the often unchaotic world of the DAW. These are some awesome free tools that Suite owners should jump straight into.
