PRS SE Standard 24 gets a new paint job for 2018. Actually, make that six.
PRS has expanded the colour options for its ever popular PRS SE Standard 24 range for 2018, adding a couple of minor aesthetic details, too.
New colours
Paul Reed Smith is offering six new finishes with matching headstocks for the SE Standard 24. These are Bay Bridge Blue, Cola Metallic, Metallic Orange, Royal Blue Metallic, Satin Black and White Pearl.
Budget Quality
The PRS SE Standard 24 is to be equipped with a mahogany body and maple neck, plus a rosewood fretboard with bird inlays, binding and 24 frets. There are also the usual 85/15 S treble and bass humbuckers and the tone knob has the push-pull function for coil splitting. That adds up to a versatile guitar for players needing quality on a budget.
USA vs Import
These guitars now have all the aesthetic features once only reserved for the ‘full fat’ USA versions of the PRS range, including the Paul Reed Smith logo and ‘Birds in Flight’ inlays. I personally own a USA Custom 24 (a now-discontinued Dave Navarro signature model) and I also own SE and S2 models as well. I think the USA-made stuff is worth the extra money, as they are more refined and have a higher quality of hardware. But I cannot fault any of my SE models. The quality, level of care and attention to finishing on these more budget models is still excellent.
I think these new colours will widen the appeal of the range and I know I will certainly be going to check some out when they hit dealers this year.
