Reverend Guitars‘ new Todd Evans Signature Squatch Hammer looks like it can pound out some decent riffs, especially with that utilitarian grey finish and the single Railhammer humbucker.

Squatch Hammer

Based on the Reverend Flying V-shaped Volcano model, this new Todd Evans Signature Squatch Hammer has a korina body and neck. The 12″-radius ebony fingerboard is fitted with 22 medium jumbo frets. The body has a nice ‘string-through’ design at the bridge end. All this should make for great sustain and good tone.

Mobile Deathcamp

The story behind this signature model is that Todd Evans of Mobile Deathcamp was a fan of the original Volcano. ‘His’ version includes some tweaks to Mr Evans’ liking. I kind of like it. Okay, it won’t be for everyone. But this guitar has a stripped back, “nasty” (in a good way) feel that’s enough to hold its own.

With a single Raihammer Anvil humbucker in the bridge controlled via a lone Volume control, it should be great for metal or rock tones. Less circuitry in the signal path is always nice, so by doing without some tone controls and switches you should be getting a purer humbucker tone.

There’s also a Boneite nut, locking tuners and a dual-action truss rod. This all adds up to a gig-ready instrument that should be great for players looking for a robust instrument that’s a little more aesthetically exciting than a Telecaster!

Simple = Good

I’m a big fan of simplicity (Fender Esquires and Gibson Les Paul Juniors are my ideas of tonal nirvana). My view is that this approach lets you just get on with it and use playing dynamics to get your sound and have fun.

This new Squatch Hammer appeals to this side of me as a guitarist. I’m quite partial to a Flying V-style guitar, like the Brent Hinds Epiphone model, mainly because I love the retro 1950s space age design of those original goofball Gibsons.

RRP – USD 1099 available in either Battleship Grey or Army Green
