Gibson Custom Shop 2016 lineup announced
Gibson have announced their Custom Shop Lineup for 2016 which includes three separate ranges: Standard Historic, True Historic and Modern Era. The ranges include Les Paul, SG and Flying Vs. All models are built by the Gibson Custom Shop team and so have a very high level of workmanship and detailing.
The Standard Range is predominantly Les Paul reissues of vintage guitars from 1957 through to 1960, as well as a Classic SG model. The Standard Range all have vintage appointments and things like one piece backs, long tenons, aniline dyes, nitro lacquer and hide glue for the construction. They also feature CTS pots wired by hand with bumblebee capacitors and custom humbucking pickups.
Next up is the True Historic Range. These are an even more accurate version of the Standard range and feature further details based upon some of Gibson’s most treasured vintage models from years gone by. These include vintage carved tops, cutaways and radiuses. They also have hand-rolled edges on the binding along the neck, plus thin holly head vintage-correct veneers. Of course there is an up charge for all the extra detailing, as it is all done by hand and is therefore labour intensive.
Last up are the Modern Era Range, which are some of the more interesting models this year. They include a Double Neck EDS1275, a Flying V and a very smart looking Flying V Custom. There are also a couple of variations on the Les Paul with a lightweight Axcess and with a choice of either a stop bar or a Floyd Rose trem. So if you prefer something less vintage, but require a high level of workmanship, then these may appeal to you.
Prices are currently all in US Dollars on the Gibson Site and are as follows.
Standard Historic Range USD $4699 – $6499
True Historic Range USD $6899- $8599
Modern Era Range USD $4799 – $6499
