NAMM 2019: EMG pulls out a bag of new Signature pickups for bass and guitar
All new signature sets for 2019
EMG has just announced five new signature pickup sets for Rancid’s Lars Frederiksen, Megadeth bassist David Ellefson, Anthrax’s Frank Bello, Slayer’s Tom Araya and fusion player Prashant Aswani. These new Signature pickups will all be presented at NAMM 2019 and are due to ship at the end of January.
EMG Signature pickups for 2019
With five sets of signature models being added to the EMG range, 2019 will be a great year for fans of high-end active pickup sets. Lots of players associate EMG with hard rock and metal, so you won’t be surprised by any of the new signature models.
Megadeth bassist David Ellefson gets a set of signature bass pickups called the DE Set designed around a combination of a dual-coil (DC) pickup in the bridge and ceramic & steel (CS) for the neck. They are available in 4 and 5 string versions starting at USD 199.
Frank Bello gets the FB Set which is another set for bass based around a PJ (Precision/Jazz) setup and these were designed with more headroom in mind. They start at USD 209 a set and come in a very fetching red finish!
Next up we have a set for Slayer bassist and frontman Tom Araya called the TA Set. They are based on the 35DC paired with the 35J. Expect these to be a pretty articulate set with enough clout to cut through heavy guitars. They start at USD 199 a set.
However, there are a few sets of passive pickups, too. Lars Fredericksen has a new set of passive humbucking pickups called Dirty Fingers with a ceramic magnet bridge pickup and an Alnico 5 neck unit. Each has a dual set of adjustable pole pieces and should be available from USD 249 a set.
The new Prashant Aswani models, the REV Set, are also passive. These pickups are a matched set with precision wound custom bobbins and Alnico 2 magnets. Apparently, they took two years to develop. These are designed for PAF tones without the muddiness of old vintage style pickups. They start at USD 199 a set.
Each of these new sets will be available from 14 January., so not long to wait. I have added some of the official videos below for you to check out.
RRP – from USD 199 – 299
