Jet City Amplification: ’45’ amp prototype ‘leaked’ on Facebook
Jet City Amplification look like they may be about to release a new amp head at some point in the near future. The company are known for designing great-sounding guitar amplifiers for those on a budget and already have a sizeable worldwide following. Earlier this week a new Jet City ’45’ Prototype appeared on Facebook and it has a lot of the fans getting excited, with a lot of speculation about what it may be.
Martin Kidd – the UK amp designer formally of Cornford amps – is rumoured to be involved and so the fans of his work are wondering if it’s an MK50-type affair. Martin recently designed the new Jet City Custom head, which I wrote about back in January and so it would seem likely he has a hand in this somewhere.
The picture seems to show a two-channel amp, with independent EQ sections, and seems to be rated at 45 Watts. Jet City were also rumoured to be making an Earhart amp a while back, which never got out off the drawing board. This new prototype is being referred to as Amelia over on the ‘JET CITY AMPS JCA20H and JCA22H, 20 watt valve heads’ Facebook users page, which would suggest this could be the same amp in a new re-designed format.
Some images and audio clips of the abandoned Jet City Earhart amp head have surfaced online, so there could be a connection between the two tonally. Or we could be looking at another UK-designed, British amp flavour from Mr Kidd in the vein of Cornford. The Jet City 100 watt HDM twin-channel amp is under GBP £300 in the UK and their 50 Watt JCA50 is less than that. This new amp could well come in at a similar price.
This is definitely one to watch out for, as it could be a very versatile amp – and very affordable, too!
