Superbooth 2019: Gibbon Digital Mono 42 case, TK-1 keyboard and MODUL app
We know Gibbon Digital by their cool looking ALAK polygonal 4-track sequencer from last year. Now they’ve got a couple of supporting modules, a really natty console style Eurorack case, an unusual 1U CV keyboard and a MIDI sequencer for iOS.
Mono 42
At first glance it looks like either one of the Modal CraftSynths or a full-sized studio console with huge modular modules. In fact it’s a petite 42hp Eurorack case with a 1U section protruding from the more regular 3U section. It looks just brilliant although it feels a little bit too small for me. Apparently, there may be an 84hp version along at some point. It does, of course, perfectly fit their TK-1 1U keyboard. It doesn’t come with integrated power. It’s designed with Buso Audio and has a quality hardwood finish.
It can be yours for €129.
TK-1
This is a funny little thing that in terms of the Mono 42 is completely genius. It’s a two channel touch keyboard in a 42hp wide 1U space. It can octave up and down, it can work as gates, triggers or CV output and has a built-in arp/sequencer. Hopefully we’ll get to see this in action.
Price is €99.
Mutuj and Rengeteg
Mutuj is an excellent companion to the AJAK is this 4 channel gate/trigger performance controller. You can manually mute and solo channels or have it controlled by CV. €89.
Rengeteg is three versions of a buffered multiple. The 5 and 4+1 versions multiply gates or trigger signals with 1 input and 5 outputs, with the last output on the 4+1 inverted. The M version multiplies MIDI messages. €49 each.
MODUL
Lastly, MODUL is a step-based MIDI sequencer for iOS. Looks simple and interesting which are two of my favourite things. Should be out in the summer.
All in all the MODUL app and the case look really interesting. But after the strong entry into the market with ALAK I can’t help but feel a little disappointed that they don’t have something more exciting in the modules department.
