Superbooth 2019: Frap Tools USTA 4-track spaceship sequencer
This looks completely amazing spaceship of glittering lights in the flesh but very strange on their website. USTA means “wisdom” or “by heart” and Frap Tools hopes that their 4-track Eurorack sequencer will give your patch a heart filled path to follow.
Usta
It’s a 4-track sequencer with this lovely oval ring of 16 knobs surrounding what could be a quite complex control section. Each track has two CV and two gate outputs in two layers giving you 16 outputs or 8 CV/Gate pairs in total. The main feature of Usta is that each step (or stage as they call it) can have its own length. So this is not gate length but step length. Each knob has a halo of LEDs around it indicating whatever value you currently have selected.
The 16 knobs give you 16 steps and up to 16 patterns can be saved. There are quantization functions for scales and root notes, gate lengths can be set along with ratcheting, probability, variation and slide per step. Each track is completely independent and can run at different time intervals, BPMs, swing and ratios.
There are two CV inputs which can be assigned to up to 6 destinations to do things like transpose or push gate lengths, increase variation, randomise steps, swap patterns and so on.
There’s a lot of power here which is difficult to grasp I think in the demo video below. But I am loving the layout and movement of lights.
Usta should be available after the summer for €749.

Having the sequence in an oval makes totally sense – funny I haven’t seen it before
