Apple has refreshed its MacBook Pro laptops with the addition of 8th & 9th generation Intel silicon and yet another keyboard revision. For the first time in its history, the MacBook Pro is available with an eight-core CPU configuration for admirable performance gains. According to Apple, the eight-core MBPs manage two times the performance of a quad-core model and are 40% faster than last year’s six-core variant.

Indeed, the eight-core model is said to be capable of running Logic Pro X projects with up to two times as many Alchemy instances – as an illustration of its power. Likewise, video editors can deal with up to 11 4K video multicam streams in Final Cut Pro X.

As for the problematic keyboard, which seems to keep plaguing the past three MacBook Pro generations, Apple’s latest workaround is the addition of new materials inside the butterfly switch mechanism, which are supposed to significantly reduce cases of double/missed key presses. It’s shipping on the new 13-inch and 15-inch models and Apple is also extending its keyboard replacement program to cover all its Butterfly-equipped laptops. So if your 2018 model is misbehaving, it might be time to negotiate with your Apple reseller.

Price and availability

The 13-inch and 15-inch models start at USD 1800 and USD 2400, respectively. Eight-core configurations are accessible on the 15-inch MacBook Pro, starting at USD 2800. It’s a significant upgrade in power for music producers, and getting keyboards fixed on 2018 models is nice for a change.
