HyperSpace: make your own reverb by combining algorithms
Developer United Plugins has released an interesting algorithmic reverb called HyperSpace. The plug-in lets you come up with various reverbs by combining a selection of algorithms – Vintage, Classic, Retro, Modern, Sci-Fi, and Cosmic. Sound promising? Yeah, it’s a colorful reverb for sure.
Behind the slightly abstract algorithm names stand familiar reverberation techniques, such as plates, hardware units, and convolution. United says it employed machine learning to analyze and compute 20 million sets of parameter values, selecting the ones that sound the best. According to United, all you have to do to come up with a great-sounding reverb is to use the pads. If you like a game of chance, use the 3-level randomizers to dial in a reverb for you.
To help your reverb sit in the mix properly, Hyperspace features four special mixing tools – spectral noise separation, ducking, transient recovery, and dynamics control. This way, you can stop the reverb from “washing” your sounds and masking them behind the rest of your tracks.
Being a modern plug-in, Hyperspace uses 64-bit audio processing and handles sample rates as high as 192kHz and more.
Price and availability
Hyperspace is available in VST, AU, and AAX formats for Windows and Mac computers. The price is down by an introductory 40% discount, making it EUR 77 down from EUR 129. A free 15-day unlimited trial version is available and authorization is accomplished via licence file, so no iLok or internet connection required for activation.
