IK Multimedia UNO Drum hybrid drum machine is ready to play
We saw this powerful little beat making box at Superbooth and now you can have one of your own. The UNO Drum is cute, portable, easy going and available right now.
UNO Drum
IK Multimedia have aced it with this one. Most of the attention around drum machines focuses on the will-it-ever-arrive RD-808 and the overly complex boxes from Elektron. Arturia also give it a good go with their Impact machines. But the UNO Drum carves its own space by being more versatile than the 808 style boxes, simpler than Elektron and smaller and lighter than the Impact. It’s so easy to use, comes with loads of beats to play with and a good range of kits. The perfect companion to the UNO Synth, or any little synth setup for that matter.
It comes with 6 analog sounds making up the core of the drum kits and then there are an additional 54 samples to sprinkle in there. You can use up to 12 elements in a kit and there’s 11 note polyphony to cope with it all. You can swap analog and digital elements and arrange them in any way you choose. It’s a little bit light on the control side but you have access to the things you’d most expect like tuning, snap and decay. On the outputs you have two analog drive and compression effects to give it some real beef.
The touchpads won’t be to everyone’s liking but they offer two velocity zones and let you get stuff in playing and recording on-the-fly. You can do it all in step-sequencer mode but you don’t have to. You can step sequencer via the 16 buttons with up to 64 steps and then chain up to 64 patterns to build your song.
Finishing it all off is some control over the swing and humanisation, instant Stutter and Roll effects and a nice big Random button for pattern generation.
All in all it’s a fun box, with good sounds, an easy interface, can be battery powered and has a reasonable price tag of €249.
