The standard Dirty Little Secret MkIII is one of the best ‘Marshall Plexi’ tones in a box’ boutique pedals. As the Portland, USA based pedal company arguably knows how to make a decent drive pedal.
This newly announced Catalinbread special Limited Edition DLS Red Mod is a hot-rodded version. Featuring a more refined set of gain stages that cuts through the low-mids of the original and brings you both extended punch and clarity.

Red Mod = Plexi Plus
With the DLS Red Mod version you get Catalinbread’s DLS circuitry that has been modified to give you more of everything you love about the original pedal, so think a Plexi Plus!
Specification
You get two distinct voicings: Super Lead and Super Bass switchable via an internal slider switch. Then you can tweak these using the Treble, Middle, Bass tone controls that reproduce the tone circuits of the Super Lead and Super Bass amps.
Plus you have a hidden Presence trim-pot, that is accessible by removing the bottom plate. This allows you to fine-tune the amount of presence or high treble frequencies.
You can hear this limited edition Dirty Little Secret Red Mod pedal in action below and hear it do its thing. I’m quite impressed and just feel it is a shame they are only making a small amount of these pedals, as it sounds sweet.
If you want one then be quick, as these will obviously sell out rather quickly, as everyone loves a good Marshall Plexi tone. I think that the price point is also pretty reasonable for a small run pedal from a pedal company with such a great reputation.
