Summer NAMM 2019: Supro Silverwood, “Supro’s Finest Electric”, to be re-released
Supro is on a roll with guitar releases ahead of Summer NAMM! The company had only just announced its re-released Ozark model – and is now touting a re-released Supro Silverwood with a very sleek transparent finish option.
Supro Silverwood
Back in the ’60s, the Supro Silverwood was billed as the company’s ‘Finest Electric’ model. Now it’s back in 2019, just in time for Summer NAMM as part of Supro’s Reissue Collection.
This guitar comes with either a mahogany or ash body in a range of transparent finishes including Ash Natural, British Racing Green, Daphne Blue and a Transparent Red. Each guitar has a glued-in, set-neck joint and a 24.75” scale length maple neck with a pau ferro fretboard.
Bound to impress
The headstock, body and necks all have matching binding too. It’s got a classy look, especially the transparent finish version, which looks a little more up-market and has a different aesthetic from the regular Supro finishes offered here or on other models in the company’s range.
Gold Foil = Clear Tone
All versions of the Silverwood use the newly released Supro Gold Foil pickups. These are low-noise, high-output single-coil pickups, Supro says, with plenty of vintage-inspired tones available. They were originally referred to as Clear Tone pickups when they were introduced in the mid-50s by Supro, and I’d expect these reissues to mimic them closely.
In my opinion, these new Supro 2019 Silverwood models look ace. I would love to try out these new Gold Foil pickups sometime and introduce them to my fuzz box collection…
RRP – USD 899 for Daphne Blue and Ash Natural, and USD 849 for British Racing Green and Transparent Red
