Joué introduces the Grand Fretboard for all your MIDI fingering needs
Following on from the Grand Clavier Joué has produced the not unexpected Grand Fretboard. It transforms their Joué Board MPE/MIDI controller into a squishy guitar fretboard controller for playing licks and chords over a greater range.
Grand Fretboard
The Joué controller is a weird thing. If offers a different but very expressive way of generating MIDI data and MPE control. There’s already a fretboard module in the original collection of modules but it only runs across two sections of this three-section device giving you 9 frets to play with. The Grand Fretboard takes this up to a whole octave of 12 frets.
It works by using silicone strings that stand proud from the surface. You then play them by touching them with your fingers, sliding and applying pressure which can also produce pitch bend if you pull it up or down. The result is an extraordinarily expressive performance which much of the nuance and feel of a real instrument. It offers a far more natural way of playing guitar type sounds over the usual piano-based controllers. Joué also includes a bunch of appropriate sounds from UVI to demonstrate the expressive power of the device.
There’s a new fretless mode where you don’t have to be restricted by the fret placement and can enter into some microtonal expression.
If you already have the Joué controller then the Grand Fretboard module costs just €39. If you’d like it bundled with the controller itself them you’re looking at €399 until the 5th August after which it will be €438.
