SYNTRX: Synthi inspired experimental analogue synthesizer from Erica Synths
Erica Synths has teamed up with Riga Technical University to develop SYNTRX a synthesizer inspired by the look and feel of the EMS Synthi AKS.

Erica Synths say they haven’t borrowed any schematics or circuirty from the Synthi so they are not trying to authentically replicate the sound, this is very much it’s own thing. Tha matrix on the other hand is directly inspired by the vintage synth but is digitally controlled and uses LEDs rather than pins. The 16×16 matrix uses 32 8-channel analogue switch ICs and is a mixer/buffered multiple with 3 level attenuation in connection points. Sounds complicated and comprehensive! It has 256 patch memory, automatic patch switching in performance mode or via MIDI.
As for the synthesizer part is has 3 VCOs, 3 VCAs, noise generator with a “colour” filter, resonant VCF, ring modulator, spring reverb, looping envelope generator and a joystick controller. There’s an external input amplifier with adjustable gain from mic to line levels. There’s an output signal filter, analogue CV/audio signal level indicator and built in speakers. Moving beyond the Synthi they’ve added Sample & Hold, an octave switch for VCO 1, sync for VCO 2 and AD mode on the envelope.
It looks beautiful. An unusual vintage cream colour for Erica Synths but it does set off those deep black knobs rather well. It appears to be designed as a desktop unit with an aluminium case and ash side panels.

It could well be at the Dutch Modular Fest this weekend so hopefully more details and demos will be forthcoming.
Erica Synths says it will be available in limited numbers by the end of the year for €2500.
