Hudson Electronics releases Ariel Posen signature Broadcast-AP preamp pedal
New signature edition of the Broadcast announced
Hudson Electronics has just unveiled the new Ariel Posen signature Broadcast-AP preamp pedal. Using silicon transistors and an OEP transformer, this new preamp is designed to add some clarity across your lows, mids and high frequencies.
Hudson Electronics Ariel Posen signature Broadcast-AP
Essentially, this is a new signature version of the ever-popular Hudson Broadcast preamp pedal. But instead of germanium transistors, this uses silicon transistors and the original Triad transformer has been swapped out for the OEP. That OEP transformer gives you a clean low end for smoother low to medium-gain tones, apparently.
Each pedal is hand made in the UK and as an owner of a few Hudson pedals, I will state that the quality of the work on all my pedals is excellent, so expect great workmanship here.
Class-A discrete
The pedal uses a Class-A discrete, transformer-coupled circuit to replicate the same sort of signal breakup that you would normally associate with old vintage style recording and broadcast consoles. I’ve owned one of the Broadcast pedals for nearly four years now and love this characteristic of the design, as it allows you to go from clean boost to all out fuzz, depending on how you dial it in.
You can run the pedal on an external power supply from 9-24 Volts, with 24 Volts giving you more headroom and a higher output.
Internal Tweaks
The Broadcast-AP has controls for Level and Gain trim knobs, plus you have a Low Cut Switch for activating a high-pass or low-cut filter. The Gain can be adjusted via a trimmer inside the enclosure, so if you want more fuzz, you can tailor it to give you exactly that. Plus you can adjust the Low Cut Switch via two trimmers inside the pedal as well.
Personally, I’m not a fan of internal controls generally, as it means you have to break out the screwdriver to play with them. But, it isn’t a huge inconvenience if you get it dialled into your rig and then go play.
RRP – GBP 189 due out 1 November
