iZotope dropped Ozone 9, introducing the typical improvements and forward-looking technologies found in a major Ozone release. Here are the notable new features:

Master Rebalance

This feature lets you correct the levels of instruments in a mix without access to the original tracks or stems. This is very helpful if all that’s needed for an instrument to sit just right is a small level tweak, or the song could do with additional riding of the faders to sound more engaging. Rather than do try-hard EQ’ing or send the mix back to the mix engineer, a good degree of balance control is now in the hands of the mastering engineer.

Low End Focus

This is a dedicated bass-shaping tool that lets you balance the low end with easy spectral adjustments meant to change the prominence of certain sounds, such as the body of an acoustic guitar or the punch of a kick drum. It has two modes – Punchy and Smooth – the former designed to accentuate percussive transients and exaggerate bass sounds. The latter provides a more subtle effect with added body and presence.

Expanded Master Assistant

The Master Assistant interface received a facelift and new adjustable intensity settings for streaming and CD formats. A new Vintage mode has been added to contrast Modern mode’s transparency with the analog character of vintage-sounding processors (EQ, compressor, tape, and so on).

Other Improvements

The Tonal Balance Control has new genre-specific reference targets in addition to the ones you can bring yourself. Other than that, Ozone 9 features a resizable interface, better performance, smoother metering, and the ability to call up an instance of iZotope plug-ins Neutron, Nectar and Relay to make per-track adjustments without searching for and opening multiple plug-ins. The Match EQ module has been separated from the Ozone equalizer to let you use it anywhere in the session. The Ozone Imager receives a new Stereoize II mode for more natural, transparent added width. Finally, Ozone 9 comes with NKS support for Native Instruments’ Maschine and Komplete Kontrol controllers. The plug-in is mapped to the hardware controls for immediate access inside your session.
