Fender Rarities Flame Koa Top Stratocaster with Tim Shaw pickups
Tim Shaw pickups and a fancy Koa top
The latest of Fender’s Rarities series has dropped – and this time we have the new Flame Koa Top Stratocaster. Sure, it looks a little over the top, but the interesting pickup configuration could get players drooling…
Fender Rarities Flame Koa Top Stratocaster
The latest guitar in the Fender Rarities Series comes equipped with a Tim Shaw-designed humbucker in a Filter’Tron cover, which makes it stand out form the crowd. The rest of the Strat is a solid ash body with a premium piece of figured koa on top, a modern C-profile European maple neck with a 9.5-inch radius fingerboard, and 21 narrow-tall frets. It also has a a bone nut, a vintage style six-point synchronised tremolo and aged white plastic elements.
Tim Shaw Pickups
For me, it is probably the pickup selection which is the most interesting thing about this particular model. The guitar comes with a single bridge humbucker with the Filter’Tron cover and two overwound, gold foil-covered Hot ’59 Strat single coils in the middle and neck positions. This could be a very sweet-sounding Strat indeed.
