TK Audio is a Swedish boutique gear operation masterminded by Thomas Kristiansson and Annica Andersson, previously known as Vintagedesign. Its prolific portfolio of mostly hand-assembled rack and 500-series equipment has grown with the addition of T-Komp, a dual mono compressor.

What looks like an unassuming four-knob comp is actually a vari-mu inspired unit with level-dependent ratio that increases with the signal level, along with two ratio ranges. The first goes as high as 20:1, pushing the comp into limiter territory, while the other is a gentle 2:1 suitable for bus compression. On top of that, the T-Komp lets you choose from feed-forward and feed-back modes for a punchy or smooth style of compression. However, this functionality is reserved for the 19-inch rack version.

A Multi-purpose Compressor

Already shaping up as a particularly versatile compressor, the unit offers a program-dependent adaptive mode in addition to a blend control for parallel compression, four peak detection settings, a high-pass filter to reduce the impact of low frequencies, and a Link switch to enable Stereo operation. With all this functionality lined up on its faceplate, the T-Komp looks like a respectable multi-purpose compressor. It’s nice to see an interesting original development every once in a while in a market saturated with vintage gear clones.

Price and availability information hasn’t surfaced yet, so if you are interested, you’ll have to check up with the nearest TK dealer. The brand has grown a wide network of dealers so getting ahold one of these is possible almost anywhere in the world.
