Victory The Copper VC35: A new amplifier head with a very British flavour
Cool, a new single-channel all-tube amp from Victory! It’s called The Copper, and it’s a lunchbox-style 35-Watt head with a decidedly Vox/Matchless flavour to its tone. This one’s British, through and through.
Victory The Copper Top
Let’s start by checking out the tubes (or valves, as we call them in the UK). In the power amp stage, you get four EL84 for a total of 35 Watts. Conveniently, that can be reduced in half to 12 Watts if needed. Two 12AX7 and one EF184 are at work in the preamp section. It certainly is a very Vox-influenced amp – even the Copper Top refers to the old Vox AC30 models of yesteryear.
Flexible front
Although “single-channel” might sound a bit rudimentary these days, the Copper is not monotonous at all. In addition to a 3-band EQ with bass Cut and mid boost switches, it has other controls for Gain, Master, Master Tone (Cut) and reverb. The hall is digital (as it is on most Victory amps). That says nothing about the quality, however.
Fans of the classic Vox circuit can trim the highs, as in the AC15 or AC30, if they’re too intense using the Tone Cut control. And on small stages (or for less headroom) there is the low power mode, which promises 12 Watts with more compression, less volume and different dynamics.
Even more on the back
On the dusty side, there are three speaker outputs – 1 x 16 Ohms or 1 x 8 ohms or 2 x 16 ohms. The serial FX loop can be activated via the optional footswitch, making it kind of like a second channel. The footswitch can also activate the reverb for you as well.
There are also matching cabs available for this amp, too, but no prices are available on those just yet. You can hear it in action in the demo video below.
RRP – GBP 1079 / EUR 1189 / USD 1299
