Strymon Iridium Amp and IR Cab pedal: It’s official!
Strymon has officially announced its brand new Iridium Amp & IR Cab pedal along with an accompanying video of it in action. With plenty of features and a premium price tag, this pedal has a lot to live up to given Strymon’s stellar reputation for quality effects. Let’s see how it stacks up.
Strymon Iridium Amp & IR Cab
After our appetites were whetted by yesterday’s teaser campaign, the Iridium virtual amp and speaker cabinet pedal has now landed! There are three elements at play here: amp modelling, IR cabs and a room control (reverb). On the amp modelling side, Iridium incorporates the sound of three iconic guitar amplifiers, created using Strymon’s Matrix Modelling process. This tech is used to “capture all the subtleties and unique tonal qualities” of the individual amps, the blurb says.
The amp sounds are based on a Fender Deluxe Reverb (named “Round” amp on the pedal), a Vox AC30TB (Chime amp) and a Marshall Plexi Super Lead model number 1959 (Punch amp).
Impulse Responses
Next is the IR component. Iridium has its own speaker cabinet simulations that offer a “level of realism and responsiveness unprecedented in outboard effects”, Strymon says. Nine impulse response speaker cabinets come pre-installed. They run at stereo 24-bit 96 kHz resolution. You can load your own IRs onto the unit, too.

Room Reverb
Rounding off the pedal is an on-board hybrid room reverb designed to put your virtual amp and speaker setup into a natural-sounding room. Small, medium and large room sizes are provided for.
Overall, this pedal should make it easier to get a natural sound when monitoring through in-ears, floor wedges, reference monitors, PA speakers or even studio headphones. It looks like a great piece of equipment and as Strymon already have a premium reputation for modelling and DSP, I’d expect this new pedal to be up to that standard. If it is, it will sound amazing.
