DNIPro DOT Polyrhythm: a striking 3-channel pattern generator
DOT is a compact and rather lovely looking Eurorack module that can generate up to 3 channels of trigger patterns. They can be Euclidean or entered by hand in either step mode or via live recording. Interesting patterns are bound to ensue.
DOT
I really like the look of it. That display is fabulous and gives you a huge amount of visual information about your pattern and how it’s evolving. The DOT display is 6 dots wide and 8 dots tall and split into a vertical matrix of 2×8, one for each channel. So you can always see what’s going on for every channel. It even shows you which mode is operating by being green for Euclidean and red for manual.
Using the Euclidean mode you can deepen the pattern with simple twists of the encoder. Then you can edit it manually or inject some CV to push it around the place. Switch to manual by clicking the encoder and then rotate through the 16 steps to turn then on and off. You can also record steps by going into record mode and tapping the buttons as the pattern rotates.
There are other features too like ratcheting, swing and live muting. You can link more than one DOT together to create whole fields of patterns. These sorts of modules are brilliant at running drums and percussions but they can also form the rhythmic heart of your melodies and basslines or generate interesting clocks for other clocked modules. AT $160 it’s pretty good value and it’s ability to expand could make it useful module to start with in a small system that could easily grow as your rack does.
