Dunlop BD95 Billy Duffy signature wah pedal: An Electric Sonic Temple?
Billy Duffy has teamed up with Dunlop effects to release a limited edition wah pedal based on Billy’s classic guitar tones from The Cult’s back catalogue. More known for his atmospheric guitar sound up until around the Electric/Sonic Temple era, Mr Duffy has written some great rock songs in his time and is known for his big riffs and ballsy solos.
This new Billy Duffy BD95 is housed in a wah case that features a silhouette of the man himself on the main foot pedal and is finished in the same colours as his signature Gretcsh guitar. The white finish looks clean and the chrome foot pedal and matching knobs add to the vibe.
The wah has two core sounds: the modern 95Q wah tone with a Volume, Q control and a more classic wah tone. You can switch between the two using the small red side switch near the rear of the wah pedal. Dunlop have added an “auto wah off” feature which disengages the effect once you remove your foot. You can also tweak how long the effect takes to disengage using internal trim control to do so.
Mr Duffy has been quite vocal about how happy he is with his new signature wah pedal, even sending out a mail shot to all his fans that had signed up to his mailing list a few months ago while he was working on its development. I’ve always found his playing to be just right for the respective song and has shown an impeccable choice of effects, so it’s nice to hear he is really happy with the final production versions.
This is currently billed as a limited edition and there are supposedly only 500 units available worldwide. Fans might have to hurry to get one.
