Erica Synths discontinues DIY modules to focus on educational kits
Erica Synths has decided to discontinue its line of DIY modules in order to focus on creating educational kits aimed at learning the basics of electronics.
No more DIY?
Erica Synths has offered a solid line of DIY modules covering a wide range of functions enabling you to build a whole system based upon them. So I think these will be missed. However, the intention to put together a line of educational kits is certainly a worthy one and could get very interesting.
So why would these educational kits be any different from what they already do? These new kits will first of all be easy and affordable and then the plan is to supply them with detailed manuals and build guides. This will also include modification ideas and experiments to help people who want to delve deeper into the electronics. On the other hand, there will be some design compromises in order to make them understandable – so that’s probably the biggest difference. Erica Synths don’t want regular Eurorack DIY-ers to be disappointed and so I imagine they thought it best to state exactly what they’re doing.
Erica Synths says that this is part of drive towards a new emphasis on education which includes their Pico System III that comes as a complete modular system but with preset Voice-Cards that can showcase what’s possible on the system.
These new kits could be excellent and perhaps not just for beginners. In the meantime they are discounting all stock of their current kit range by 15% until they’ve all gone.
